Position Summary

The Brandizzi lab uses multidisciplinary approaches, including proteomics, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, and genomics to address numerous research goals, providing ample opportunities for members at all levels to engage in top-level plant science. The Research Technologist I will be a part of a research team that investigates molecular and physiological mechanisms of plant growth, development, and stress resilience using bioenergy crops and model species.

Responsibilities include following established protocols to perform molecular cloning; extract plasmid DNA, gDNA, and RNA; grow and maintain Arabidopsis, Brachypodium, or sorghum plants; record and analyze various data from plants; good sterile technique, preparation of stock solutions, cleaning glassware, and tracking research materials; Assist with maintaining lab, instruments, equipment, and research supplies; and the candidate should have excellent communication, collaboration, and record-keeping skills.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in plant biology, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet, database, and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desired Qualifications

The selected candidate must have excellent communication, collaboration, and record keeping skills.  Experience and education background in plants is not required but desired.  This work will require molecular cloning, plant phenotyping, genotyping, and plant maintenance, assisting with lab safety compliance, and training others in the lab, if needed.
