Job Description

A 1500-hour wage position is available in the Scharf lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech to study motility and chemotaxis in the symbiotic soil bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti. Typical duties include analysis of genomic and RNA seq data, molecular modeling of protein structures and protein-protein and protein-ligand interaction, preparation of federal grant proposals, manuscript preparation and review. Preference will be given to researchers with strong skills in analyzing flagellar-driven motility behavior and in studying protein-protein interaction. Chosen applicant should have a good publication record.


Required Qualifications

- Advanced knowledge of molecular microbiology and biochemistry.
- Advanced knowledge in preparation of scientific manuscripts.
- Specific experience in bioinformatics methods such as RNA seq analysis and molecular modeling.


Preferred Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field or an equivalent level of training and/or experience.
- Experience with bacterial motility assays, DNA and RNA analysis, and biochemical protein assays.
