The Mendoza-Halliday Lab is currently seeking candidates for a Research Technician position (2 years or more) in the field of Cognitive Neurophysiology. We use high-count multi-area neuronal recordings & optogenetics to investigate how neurons generate, monitor, and transform mental representations in working memory. The Lab is affiliated with the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. Duties include animal care, behavioral training and neuronal recordings in non-human primates (NHPs), and lab management duties. Candidates with an academic background in Neuroscience (or related field in Biological Sciences, Medicine, or Engineering) and/or experience working with large animals in research or veterinary settings are particularly encouraged to apply. Initial training and close supervision will be provided by the principal investigator. The position is ideal for candidates interested in technical research work in a Cognitive Neurophysiology lab or in gaining research experience as preparation for future PhD Program applications. Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions 

Taking care of large non-human primates (NHPs), including daily transport of animals between home cages and experimental setup room. 


Physical Effort 

Transporting large NHPs (~9-15 kg) between home cage and experimental setup room using wheeled transport box: two to eight times a day.
