POSITION INFORMATION: Provides assistance to a research staff by conducting simple research experiments, collecting data and samples, keeping records, conducting literature searches, analyzing data, and preparing reports.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Research.  Conducts simple research and laboratory analysis to include but not limited to measure and weigh compounds and solutions, isolate, identify and prepare specimens, and collect samples and other research data.
  • Tissue culture.  Prepare tissue culture media and maintain tissue culture lines for research staff.
  • Data Collection.  Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information and/or hard files. 
  • Record Keeping.  Keeps detailed logs of all research related activities and inventories.
  • Product ordering.  Assist with ordering laboratory reagents and equipment.
  • Data Analysis.  Conducts data analyses, interprets results, summarizes findings, and presents to Principal Investigator. 
  • Report Preparation.  Prepares reports concerning the progress of the project. 
  • As NeededPerforms various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

    Job Requirements

    Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in a biological science, chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology or other health related field.
     
    Equivalent/ Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, or an Associate’s Degree plus 24 months research experience.
    Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology, cell & molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or laboratory science.
    • Familiarity with mammalian tissue culture, media preparation, and buffer preparation.
    • Molecular biology skills: PCR, RT-PCR, DNA electrophoresis, plasmid cloning, transfection, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, recombinant protein expression and purification, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, microscopy
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Experience or interest in working with BSL-2 pathogens.
    • Interested in helping establish a new molecular parasitology laboratory.
