Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
 The UNC Neuroscience Center is an inter-departmental research center on the campus of UNC- Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Our mission is to promote various and extensive neuroscience research with a specific emphasis on developmental, cellular, and disease-related processes.
Position Summary
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the research technician will be tasked with performing molecular biology experiments investigating the genetic basis of neuropsychiatric disorders. Please see our publications and descriptions of our research at wonlab.org. 
The majority of duties will involve mouse/human tissue collection; whole genome libraries for massively parallel sequencing; generating viral plasmids that can transduce human neural cells and mouse tissues; performing PCR and gel electrophoresis; primary neuronal cell culture and transduction; RNA/DNA extraction; genomic library preparation; preparing buffers, solutions, and chemicals for lab experiments; data analysis and interpretation; maintaining database of experimental results; assisting with grant applications and publications; providing technical assistance in the lab, including assisting other members of the lab; and assisting with training of lab assistants and students. 
Lab managerial duties include preparing reagents and media, receiving, and documenting reagents, supplies, and equipment, complying with mandated safety protocols, disposal of chemical and biohazard waste, maintaining equipment in good working condition, and communicating results during lab meetings.

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, communicate clearly, promote and participate in collaborative endeavors, take initiative, and be intellectually vested in lab’s research goals. In addition, prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics or neuroscience.
