Position Summary | The Sondek lab is seeking a Research Technician to support biochemical and structural studies of protein complexes. The scope of the work includes: i) maintenance and propagation of eukaryotic cell cultures, ii) purification of proteins using established procedures, and iii) standard biochemical assays. The successful candidate will work closely with senior laboratory personnel to develop technical skills and analytical abilities. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Experience with basic database management and general lab operations is required. Excellent verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to present scientific data. Must be able to complete a number of different tasks simultaneously and have excellent time management skills. A strong record of reliability, consistency, and organization as demonstrated in written and computer formats. Must have good interpersonal skills, ability to follow directions, and to work productively with others. Must have laboratory experience. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | A background in expression and purification of recombinant proteins. Experience in lab organization including maintaining records, specifically a lab safety plan and chemical and radionuclide inventories. Experience in creating and managing databases to organize cell lines and plasmid DNA. This position requires extensive expertise in molecular biology and preparation of recombinant plasmid DNA. In addition, knowledge of basic spectroscopy and electrophoresis of DNA and proteins is desired Experience with high-pressure lysis (e.g. EmulsiFlex) and preparative ultracentrifugation is necessary, as is a thorough working knowledge of fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) systems (e.g. AKTA). Prior experience with immobilized metal affinity chromatography, ion exchange, and gel exclusion chromatography is also highly desirable. |
