Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Neuroscience Center is an inter-departmental research center on the campus of UNC- Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Our mission is to promote various and extensive neuroscience research with a specific emphasis on developmental, cellular, and disease-related processes.
Position Summary
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the research technician will be tasked with performing cellular and molecular biology experiments investigating the genetic basis of brain development. Please refer to our publications and descriptions of our research at antonlab.org.
The majority of duties will involve cell culture, maintenance, and expansion of transgenic mice, confocal microscopy, basic molecular biological techniques which requires rigorous attention to detail,aptitude for precise experimental planning, accurate record keeping, and consistent aseptic technique.
Additional duties include preparing cell culture reagents and media, receiving, and documenting reagents, supplies, and equipment, complying with mandated safety protocols, disposal of chemical and biohazard waste, maintaining equipment in good working condition, and communicating results during lab meetings.
Candidates will be encouraged to embrace opportunities to participate in other lab projects that may use cell-culture assays, molecular cloning, real-time PCR, immunocytochemistry, preparing libraries for transcriptomics, proximity labeling for proteomics, organoid generation, data analysis and interpretation, maintaining a database of experimental results, assisting the preparation of grant applications and publications, and providing general technical assistance to support ongoing research projects.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, or genetics. Previous experience with cell culture. Candidates with strong knowledge of genetics, biochemical signaling pathways, and brain development are preferred. Ability to conduct well organized, multi-layered experiments for multiple hours per day. Consistently strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
