Position Summary
Technical support for long-term field monitoring (Neuse River, ModMon project, and FerryMon project) and related laboratory analytical activities. This position makes water quality measurements using multi-parameter data sondes (YSI 6600 and 6800), coupled to data loggers, and lab processing of data. Water samples that are collected will be analyzed for nutrient (utilizing an autoanalyzer) and organic matter content, including high temperature C,H,N measurements, and total organic carbon measurements. The Technician must have working knowledge of these technologies. The technician will assist with analyzing nutrient samples on a Seal flow injection autoanalyzer. Data analysis and application of sample statistics will be conducted as part of this position. Laboratory safety, policies and procedures along with assisting with radiation safety testing and assurance procedures are vital to this position. This Technician maintains records, orders supplies for the field and lab, and prepares and submits analysis invoices for the UNC-Environmental Microbiology Recharge Center.

Experience with field water quality sampling and laboratory analyses of phytoplankton chemical constituents (photopigments, nucleic acids, elemental composition) and basic microscopic identification.
AA or BSc degrees in biological or chemical sciences.
