Summary of Job Duties:

The Research Technician is responsible for setting up procedures and conditions for conducting agricultural research involving crop production. Crop and research management activities that include tillage, irrigation, pest control, establishing research trials, assisting with data collection, farm equipment operation and routine maintenance, and use of specialized lab and field research equipment for planting, growing, irrigating, monitoring, and harvesting agronomic plants. Maintain clean, organized, and safe lab, shop, and field environments by adhering to safety policies and procedures. Use of proper and appropriate safety gear and attending regularly scheduled safety training is required. Application of appropriate and safe chemicals to crops for fertilization and pest control is required. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain good working relationships with others from diverse backgrounds. Duties will include assisting with farm, equipment, and facility maintenance and upkeep. The Research Technician works directly under the supervision of Program Technicians, Program Associates, and the Resident Director.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in performing agronomic field and lab work.

Requires knowledge of techniques, procedures, and equipment operations used in agriculture research. Ability to perform standard and special agriculture tests as assigned. Knowledge of and experience with vehicle and farm equipment, operation, maintenance, and safety requirements. Ability to operate and perform routine building and minor repairs on motorized vehicles and equipment.
