Position Summary
This is an apprenticeship role. This entry-level position is responsible for learning to master standard, entry-level research skills and the ability to assist with laboratory duties in a research setting; learn to perform routine research tasks with direction from the supervisor, manager, or higher-level technician.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This is an apprentice role. With direction from the supervisor, manager, or higher-level technician, this entry-level position is responsible for learning to:

  • Master standard, entry-level research skills.

  • Assist with laboratory duties in a research setting.

  • Assist with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

  • Learn to perform routine research tasks, including: experiments and assays, collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.

  • Comply with established safety and standard operating procedures and learns to maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Trainees will work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and there is a possibility this position will provide standard care to research animals.

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification, or equivalent work experience.

Salary Range
$15.96 - $20.23 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
