Position Summary/Description:


The Ulgherait lab in the Department of Nutrition is looking for a Technician with previous Drosophila experience, and some molecular biology experience to help with ongoing research projects, and lab organization. 
The research is focused on the biology of aging and how nutrition regulates the lifespan of organisms. We primarily use the fruit fly as our model system. More specifically, the lab studies how to extend fruit fly lifespan via nutritional, metabolic, and genetic interventions. 
This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates/students looking to get some research experience and publications before moving on to graduate school or medical programs.

The Research Technician will assist with studies evaluating the influence of genetics, nutrition, and metabolism on Drosophila aging/lifespan. They will participate in experiments involving Drosophila, in vitro models, and (bio)chemical analysis, using existing procedures and protocols. They will be responsible for studying literature related to the research goals, for developing research plans, conducting experiments, recording, and analyzing and interpreting data. The position may initiate development of new experimental design and methods. Work includes administrative and safety tasks including Environmental Health and Safety compliance of the lab.

Education and Experience:


Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
