Executes designated field and laboratory experiments by obtaining, managing, and processing soil and greenhouse gas samples from different sites within the C-FARM mandate and other Lal Carbon Center colleagues. Collects harvest data from long-term Lal Carbon Center experiments. Assists as needed in preparation of soil samples for laboratory analyses of soil health parameters, tabulate the data in a spreadsheet so that the data can be subjected to statistical analyses and used to validate models. Assists in handling foreign soils: autoclaving, sterilizing, make sure everything is accounted for at every step of the analysis process. Instructs students and others in methods and instrument operation.

Assists in judging the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures and recommend additional tests and/or modifications and writing research progress-report, including summarizing test results of participating investigators; and assists in the preparation of papers for publication. Performs literature research on specified topics, including researching current literature for methods and trends and subsequent evaluation of those methods.

Maintains lab, including the procurement of space, supplies and related equipment; respond to requests for technical information from various public and private agencies and from individuals. Supports other administrative activities including budgets, scheduling, and purchases. Assists in keeping service contracts up, and supervise student assistants or support staff as needed.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in a biological/agronomic science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience

1-2 years of relevant experience. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/agronomic science research.

Desired Experience

Experience in a biological/agronomic science research capacity.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
