Research Technician - (21003321)
Description
The Research Technician at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Center for Neurovirology and Gene Editing team, under the supervision of Dr. Khalili, performs complex research activities following established methods and procedures in support of the research projects of the PI. The candidate assists with various experiments; testing standard research methodologies, procedures, and verbal and written instructions that will include vector cloning, cell culture studies, biochemical assays, and PCR based assays.
Responsibilities: Sterile technique as it relates to cell and tissue culture as well as bacterial culture growth; biochemical assays; virological assays; molecular cloning; ordering and maintaining general lab supplies; preparing inventories for plasmid DNA, cell lines, tissue and blood samples from human and animal studies; performing immunohistochemical analysis and Western blotting; analysis of plasmids by restriction enzyme digestions.
The Research Technician also maintains and cleans sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment, inventories chemicals, supplies, and equipment, and instructs and assists students and lower-level technicians. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Three years of directly related research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to perform cell culture related experiments
*Proficiency in methods of DNA transfection, extraction of DNA, RNA, and protein samples of cells in culture
*Experience in small animal research studies
*Proficiency in PCR techniques (PCR, RT-PCR, Q-RT-PCR, ddPCR)
*Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe and related software
*Demonstrated proficiency in the above-listed laboratory techniques
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Possess the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
*Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in science-related area of research and at least one year of directly related laboratory experience
This position requires a background check for cash/credit handling.
This is a grant funded position.
