The Moreno Lab (College of Medicine):
The Moreno Lab is a welcoming, vibrant, and multidisciplinary environment. The lab is located at the College of Medicine of the University of Central Florida (Orlando). The city has an enviable quality of life and is only a short distance away from world-renowned theme parks and beaches.

The Opportunity:

The Moreno Lab is looking for a research assistant to complement our ongoing investigations into the emergence and evolution of bacterial pathogens. As a member of the laboratory team, this candidate will contribute to research focused on studying the immune responses to respiratory influenza virus infection, a global health concern. The long-term goal of this research is to improve vaccines against influenza and other respiratory pathogens. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, energetic, well-organized, and is able to work productively both independently and as part of a team.

UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of a biomedical laboratory.

  • Perform and analyze results of laboratory techniques and assays.

  • Maintain laboratory inventory

  • Perform and/or oversee ordering, receiving, storage of reagents and consumables.

  • Perform tasks necessary for basic lab activities and operations. These include but are not limited to EHS permits, MTAs, IACUC protocols, etc.

  • Coordinate the acquisition, storage and quality control of samples, reagent inventory, and specific laboratory equipment.

  • Animal colony maintenance and genotyping (PCR & Flow Cytometry)

  • Participation in ongoing research that involves and modern molecular and immunological assays

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in disciplines related to microbiology or molecular biology.

People with lab experience in these disciplines will be strongly preferred.
