Job Description Summary:
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine, KUMC is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work in the Cortical Plasticity Laboratory (PIs: Drs. Randolph Nudo and David Guggenmos) as a Research Technician to study neural plasticity and recovery in animal models of stroke and traumatic brain injury.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in life science.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience.
Work Experience:
Experience with research involving animals.
Animal behavior training and testing.
Histology
Skills:
Highly motivated to learn, assertive, detail orientated, organized, can prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
Sound judgement, strong analytical skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
Experience with Matlab and other quantitative laboratory tools.
Job Duties Outlined:
Under the direction of PIs and other research staff, conducts routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, and record results.
Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
Under the direction of PI and other research staff will perform research with live animal models and post-mortem samples.
Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
Participate in maintaining day-to-day laboratory operation that includes ordering supplies, cleanup, routine animal maintenance, and maintenance of equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and other research staff.
Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University of Kansas Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, understand and follow IACUC, animal and biosafety protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
