NEUROLOGICAL SURGERY (IN-SNEU-IUINA)

There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in neurosurgery. We're fortunate in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine  that our clinicians, researchers, and educators are leading the way in how we treat patients, investigate new therapeutics, and train the next generation of neurosurgeons. In 2022, we experienced a 24 percent increase in our spine program and a 26 percent increase in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding; 1 of only 5 departments at IU School of Medicine with this large of a research funding boost. Our residency program continued to lead the country in the number of medical students matching into neurosurgery.

  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Experience in animal care, breeding, genotyping, behavioral testing, cell culture, sectioning, histology, and immunohistochemical staining (willing to provide training).

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
