RESEARCH TECHNICIAN, Biology-MIT BioMicro Center (2 openings), to join a highly collaborative team supporting a broad range of biological research projects in cancer, infectious disease, environmental health, and other and topics in basic and applied biology. Will focus on providing service and support for a variety of cutting-edge, high data content technologies including next-generation sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomic technologies, and automated liquid handling; perform a broad range of genomic and molecular biology techniques and participate in the adoption of high-throughput methodologies; and maintain sophisticated genomics equipment and train researchers on utilizing instrumentation.

The MIT BioMicro Center is an integrated bioinformatics and genomics core providing MIT faculty members with facilities for high-throughput data-intensive genomics required to fully implement systems approaches to investigate a broad spectrum of biological problems.  The center is designed to maximize the likelihood of successfully designing, implementing, and analyzing systems biology data, with an expert staff available for consultation and collaboration and access to cutting-edge technology. The BioMicro Center is operated in collaboration with the MIT departments of Biology and Biological Engineering, Koch Institute for Integrated Cancer Research, and the MIT Center for Environmental Health Sciences. 


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  experience in a research lab; demonstrable knowledge of basic biological methods and techniques; strong computational and organizational skills; self-motivation; a desire to regularly acquire new knowledge/skills; and a high school diploma.  PREFERRED: bachelor’s/master’s degree in biological science or related field; strong molecular biology background; experience with genomics, molecular biology, cell culture, or automation; experience handling sophisticated instrumentation; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and rapidly grasp new fields of study.  Job #19310
