|Description of Work||
The laboratory of Dr. Patricia Maness in the Dept. of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Genetic Medicine Building, is seeking an experienced research technician. Our laboratory focuses on defining novel mechanisms for establishing neuronal connectivity in the developing mammalian brain using mouse models, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry. A key focus of the lab is understanding the molecular mechanism by which Neural Cell Adhesion Molecules (CAMs) regulated dendritic spines and synapses during the adolescent to adult transition. Genes encoding Neuron-Glial related CAM (NrCAM), L1, and NCAM are linked to autism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, thus identification of their molecular action in developing cortical circuits will provide important insight into normal and pathological brain development. Visit our web pages at srclab.web.unc.edu for details of our research program.
|Education and Experience||
Minimum Education and Experience: Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Education and Experience: BS and/or BA degree in chemistry, biology or related sciences. Applicant should have expertise in molecular biology; in particular, site-directed mutagenesis, sequence analysis, and DNA cloning. The candidate should also have experience in mammalian cell culture and DNA transfection. Prior work with mouse breeding, histology, and microscopy would be highly desirable.
