CANCER CENTER (IN-CANC-IUINA)

The In Vivo Therapeutics Core is one of several shared resources offered to assist with cancer research at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC). The mission of the In Vivo Therapeutics (IVT) Core is to provide IUSCCC investigators with cost-effective and comprehensive services to facilitate the development and testing of novel pharmacological and cellular therapies.

The IVT Core is seeking a Research Technician to assist the Lab Supervisor & Core Manager in the coordination and execution of in vivo research experiments. The In Vivo Therapeutics Core provides comprehensive services to several divisions and over 100 laboratories and companies, supporting the development and testing of novel pharmacological & cellular therapies.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs small animal handling (rodents), animal husbandry, animal restraint, dose administration (oral, IV, IP, SQ), blood collection by various methods, necropsy, and maintenance of multiple large scale mouse breeding colonies.
  • Responsible for daily operation of the Cesium Irradiator for the radiation resource core facility (within IUSCCC In Vivo Therapeutics Core) to provide small animal irradiations and cell culture irradiations. This includes coordinating and scheduling services provided to many labs.
  • Responsible for billing of core services performed, preparation of research reports, maintenance of laboratory equipment records, and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.  

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in science or related field.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
