This position in Dr. Bruce Spiegelman???s Lab will assist postdocs in performing scientific research aimed at understanding the mechanistic basis of metabolic disease. The research technician willcollaborate with other scientists and team members, working independently as well as part of multi-disciplinary research teams to design and execute experiments for ongoing research projects. Duties include working with laboratory mice, conducting basic molecular and cell biology,and handling biochemical and biophysicalassays.
Procedures include but are not limited to:isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein from cultured cells and animal tissues; recombinant protein production and purification from bacteria and mammalian cell lines; primary cell culture and mouse handling and experimentation. There will be extensive opportunities for intellectual engagement with data analysis, experimental planning, oral and written scientific communication, as well as exposure to cutting-edge experimental methods; the position will be a good stepping stone for those interested in a biomedical research career.

- Assisting postdocs and students with cell based assays, including maintenance of cell lines, isolation of primary cells from mouse tissue, and genetic manipulation including CRISPR knockout and viral transduction.
- Assisting with biochemical techniques such as protein purification and labeling, protein-protein or protein-small molecule interactions, enzyme assays,and metabolite measurements.
- Assisting with molecular biology techniques such as cloning and plasmid purification, as well as isolation and analysis of RNA, DNA, and protein from mouse tissue and cellular samples.
- Maintaining of animal (laboratory mouse) colonies, including weaning, tail biopsies, DNA preparation and genotyping by PCR.
- Assisting with animal experiments including mouse phenotyping, intraperitoneal (IP) injection and intravenous (IV) injection, animal sampling and dissection, and tissue harvesting.
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with scientific specialty is required (or obtained in Spring 2024).
- Previous experience working in a medical or scientific research setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology, chemistry, or biophysics is preferred. Must be willing to work extensively with laboratory mice.
- Must be a self-motivated and independent workerwith excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be strong critical thinker with attention to detail and thorough in completing, troubleshooting, and communicating the results of work tasks.
