Summary

The position is for a Research Technician III to provide responsible research assistance for studies on hepatitis B virus in the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology. This position will encompass both sterile maintenance and culturing of cells, growing of virus strains, performing a variety of assays such as transfections of cells, enzyme immunoassays, RT-qPCR, and Western blots to detect functional viral and host proteins critical for successful virus replication. A responsible, skilled and dedicated individual is required. This position will offer a unique and rewarding translational research experience in a dynamic and highly productive laboratory. This job is suitable for someone who can handle multiple projects and can follow instructions to complete assignments under minimal supervision.

Job Duties

  • Maintain cell lines.
  • Purify plasmids and transfect plasmids into cell lines.
  • Establish and apply techniques routinely used in research such as enzyme immunoassays, western blot and RT-qPCR.
  • Document results.
  • Order supplies, general clean up, freezer cataloging, and maintaining lab equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent and at least one summer of research experience.
  • Experience in molecular biology, excellent aseptic technique and general skills common to a microbiology lab are a must. Tissue culture expertise is required.
  • Preference given for experience in virology research.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills with the ability to keep accurate records of all work performed.
  • Must show documented proof of HBV immunity.
  • Molecular biology expertise is desired.
