Summary
The K Lemon Lab at Baylor College of Medicine is hiring a Research Technician III. Our long-term goal is to identify bacterial strains and compounds that will be leads for new approaches to prevent and treat infections due to nasal bacterial pathobionts and respiratory viruses. To achieve this, we are elucidating the molecular mechanisms of interspecies interactions in the human nasal microbiome. Research Technicians in the K Lemon Lab perform a variety of experimental techniques and have multiple opportunities for mentored on-the-job skill building. Job Duties
- Perform experiments using bacterial cultivation, human nasal organoids, molecular biology, and genetic engineering. Work with Dr. Lemon to trouble shoot experimental issues.
- Read scientific papers related to experiments, summarize findings, and prepare a report.
- Participate in lab meetings and read applicable literature.
- Prepare figures and write draft methods, figure legends, and results for experiments performed.
- Perform ordering, check monthly reports against orders received, maintain lab supplies and inventory.
- Maintain, demonstrate, and ensure compliance with standard biosafety and laboratory regulations.
- Maintain general lab environment, including, but not limited to, equipment maintenance and repairs, organization, and cleanliness of the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a basic science or equivalent education, preferably in microbiology, microbial ecology, biology, or chemical biology.
- Experience in bacterial cultivation, excellent aseptic technique, and general skills common to a microbiology lab. Additional experience with organoids or tissue culture preferred strong documentation and organizational skills with the ability to keep accurate records of all work performed.
- The equivalent of at least 1 year of lab research experience with bacteria. (Lab courses alone are insufficient to meet this requirement.).
- Coding experience applied to data science and bioinformatic is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new bench research techniques with guidance and mentoring.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, including ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, use good judgment and complete duties.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a team with diverse backgrounds.
