Summary

The requested hire will be part of a team working on genetic screens for modifiers of neurodegenerative disorders using the Drosophila model system. The position will use sophisticated statistical tools to analyze data generated from the genetic screens. In addition, this role will provide support to  graduate students using standard wet lab techniques such as western blotting and immunostaining.


Job Duties
  • Work with stereomicroscopes to sort Drosophila of different genotypes according to genetic markers and will set up thousands of mating schemes.
  • For each mating, sort and collect progeny of the appropriate genotypes to assess neuronal dysfunction and neurodegeneration using well-established behavioral readouts in Drosophila models of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Operate and troubleshot two distinct robots used for behavioral readouts of neuronal dysfunction and for automated and accelerated transfer of Drosophila between vials.
  • Use statistical analysis to assess genetic modifier effects using longitudinal mixed effects (ANOVA) models with smoothing splines to capture non-linear trends over time.
  • Write code for automated graph generation and maintain lab databases. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Experience both in wet lab and dry lab  techniques including statistical analysis.
