Research Technician II, The Wu Lab

Occupational Summary: 

The Wu Lab in the Department of Orthopaedics at Duke University is looking to hire an individual to perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized assays,laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations in support of researchin the fields of bone and musculoskeletal research, such as bio-specimen processing, micro-CT analysis of mouse tissue molecular biology, tissue culture, tissue sectioning, histology, mouse colony management, murine surgical procedures, in vivo imaging. 

Work Performed: 

· Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical or biological tests and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data in support of research oriented activities; 

· Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. 

· Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required. 

· Process murine bio-specimens such as blood and tissue and purification of different cell types, DNA, RNA,and proteins from bio-specimens, maintaining detailed documentation and inventory. 

· Set up instruments,material and apparatus and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests. 

· Maintain cell culture lines,including preparation of culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. 

· Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques. 

· Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
