Position Highlights The School of Natural Resources and the Environment is in search of a Research Technician II. The Research Technician II will assist in field activities related to Razorback Sucker (native threatened species) reintroduction and monitoring on the Verde River in central Arizona. Activities will include fish tagging, telemetry surveys, habitat data gathering, and other field activities in support of the research. Multi-day camping trips in remote wilderness is required as in weekend availability as the majority of field activities will occur on Friday-Sunday.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties :

  • Assist in tagging Razorback Sucker
  • Data collections and recording
  • Field sampling activities (electorfishing, telemerty, habitat sampling, community sampling, etc.)
  • Commuting to field sites often on unmaintained wilderness roads.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to maintain composure in uncomfortable field conditions
  • Ability to do a repetitive task (data collection or tagging fish) for hours at a time while maintaining focus and work quality.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in difficult environmental conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Weekend availability (almost ALL field activities will occur on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive off-road according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Fish and Wildlife Science, Ecology, Fisheries, or related field.
  • Experience camping for extended periods in remote wilderness location without cell service.
  • Experience handling fish and with basic fish sampling techniques.
