Position Highlights

This pilot project will establish an automated data infrastructure system processing real-time air pollution and traffic data from multiple sensor networks. One technician will be responsible for aim 1, which is to create a data infrastructure and automated workflow and link land-use and built environment data. The technician will write R code and work with GIS data. The second technician will be responsible for aim 3, which is to a prediction model using extracted data from sensors and GIS variables. The technician will require machine learning proficiency, statistics knowledge, data visualization experience, and R/Python programming.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, construct a spatiotemporal prediction model for air pollution in Tucson and Pima using machine learning.
  • Under supervision, create a data dashboard containing interactive maps and with data visualizations.
  • Under supervision, harmonize datasets from various sensors (air pollution and traffic) in Tucson by matching by time and location. Remove erroneous data and create a data flow that is automated by pulling data from cloud services into a server.
  • Under supervision, extract vegetation and land-use variables from remote sensing and satellite imagery for Tucson and Pima County. The extraction will be regular and will be used to characterize dynamic land use changes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with R programming.
  • Experience with GIS.
  • Knowledge of statistics.
  • Bachelor's degree.
