Position Summary
Seeking a Research Technician II to conduct research projects and assist with research activities in the Knox lab at Washington University School of Medicine. The Knox lab is focused on mechanism and therapy development for early onset muscle disease. Mechanistically, we are focused on a multi-system muscular dystrophy, early onset Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD).
The position will perform research studies with training and supervision with a focus on mouse colony management, cell culture as well as molecular biology and immunohistochemistry techniques in in vitro and in vivo models. A desire to learn new experimental techniques and model systems is preferred.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • May assist with figures and materials for manuscripts and presentations.
  • Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.

Salary Range
$16.59 - $25.92 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
