Position Highlights The technician in this position will be responsible for conducting field duties as part of ongoing bullfrog monitoring and control efforts in southeast Arizona to aid in the restoration and recovery of imperiled native wildlife in riparian and aquatic systems. The technician will travel to field sites to conduct daytime and nighttime surveys for bullfrogs and endangered Chiricahua leopard frogs, implement and/or assist in bullfrog eradication efforts, conduct and/or assist in Chiricahua leopard frog translocation efforts. This position will involve repeated overnight travel, camping in remote areas, working and hiking in hot, rugged field conditions carrying packs up to and exceeding 40 lbs, and operating a 4x4 vehicle.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties: 

  • Conducting daytime and nighttime surveys for American bullfrogs, Chiricahua leopard frogs, and other amphibians at sites throughout southeast Arizona.
  • Eradicating American bullfrogs following standard University-approved procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to reliably identify all native and nonnative amphibians in southeast Arizona under field conditions, including nighttime conditions.
  • Previous training and experience in Chihuahua leopard frog surveys and bullfrog eradication procedures.
  • Knowledge of field conditions of southeast Arizona (e.g., extreme heat, thunderstorms, thick vegetation, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicant must have attended the Chiricahua leopard frog workshop training offered by Arizona Game and Fish Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and possess necessary state and federal permits.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in Chiricahua leopard frog conservation and bullfrog ecology and removal in Arizona.
