RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II  

Henderson Lab – Duke Human Vaccine Institute

We are seeking a Research Technician II to support operations within the Henderson Research Lab. The primary overall responsibility of the position will be to assist with protein production and purification. 

Responsibilities  

  • Assist in the production and purification of proteins for structural studies using FPLC and SEC methods.
  • Perform QC on produced samples, including SDS-PAGE, western blotting, and SEC.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of cell cultures and media for standard testing.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and other documentation in an orderly and accurate fashion for tracking work progress, experiments, and results.
  • Provide a summary of written work updates and plans each week.
  • Monitor inventory and ensure necessary supplies of stock are available for continuity of scientific work; maintain other equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator and laboratory leadership. 

Required Qualifications at this Level

  • Education/Training: Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
  • Experience: None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team 
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Experience in protein expression, purification and biochemistry.
