RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

The Lee lab in the Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting a research technician to assist with various molecular biology, cell biology, histology, and animal experiments. This person will work on projects that aim to dissect mechanisms underlying the development of normal tissue injury induced by ionizing radiation in the gastrointestinal tract using genetically engineered mouse models.

Job description

  • Perform various molecular biology experiments including but not limited to: DNA/RNA/Protein extraction, qRT-PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry staining, and microscopy
  • Perform various cell biology experiments to study the response of intestinal organoids to radiation
  • Assist with animal experiments studying the radiation responses of the GI tract.
  • Assist with maintaining lab mouse colony: set up crosses, perform tai l clip biopsies, mark mice (tattoo, ear tag, etc.), and wean pups
  • Maintain an organized and complete lab notebook
  • Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus, and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests
  • Collect and report raw data to the PI
  • Teach new lab members scientific techniques that you are familiar with
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
  • Help provide a collegial environment for the laboratory
  • Meet with the PI weekly to plan experiments, troubleshoot problems, and discuss results
  • Must be flexible to work on weekends or shifts
  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and highly collaborative with strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, interactive team environment

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.


Experience
