Occupational Summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to join the Hemmers lab in theDeparment of Integrative Immunobiology. The Hemmers lab is studying how the tissue environment imprints T lymphocytes during early life and in the context of neuroinflammation. The candidate will be part of a growing highly dynamic and diverse team of scientists studying T cell and glial cell biology utilizing a wide variety of cellular immunology, transcriptomics, and mouse genetic approaches. Ideal candidates will be self-driven, creative, and highly collaborative. This is a great opportunity for recent college graduates to expand their full-time research experience to prepare for graduate/medical school.
Work Performed
Standard mouse husbandry, including genotyping.
Perform molecular biology and cellular immunology experiments (including recombinant DNA methods, basic cell culture and flow cytometry)
Provide experimental support including mouse handling, mouse tissue processing and cell isolation.
Prepare and maintain detailed records of all procedures and results.
Lab organization (order supplies, organize equipment and supplies). Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
Help with onboarding and training of new lab members.
Participate in lab meetings, review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
Optional: opportunities to perform scRNA sequencing data analysis
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
Experience
None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Life sciences, ideally with courses in molecular and cell biology;
Work experience in a life science laboratory;
Ability to learn complex tasks with general instruction;
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills;
Prior basic experience in molecular biology techniques, tissue and cell processing and mouse handling are preferred;
Ability to work individually and as a team member in a low structure environment;
Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise;
Minimum two-year commitment due to substantial training effort associated with the position.
