Position Highlights The primary responsibility of this professional will be participating in field, greenhouse and laboratory research, measuring greenhouse gas emissions. The individual will also participate in outreach activities. Research duties will include collecting soil, water, and plant biomass samples from the field, process them for analyses, run analyses, procure and organize research data, perform statistical analyses, and write brief study reports.

The ideal candidate would have the following, an understanding of environmental science principles, experience in working with chemicals, electronic instruments, the ability to work outside for extended hours, the ability to drive vehicles to rural and urban field research sites the ability to learn new skills, the ability to write reports and scientific manuscripts and the motivation to work with agricultural stakeholders.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct appropriate laboratory and field research for soil health program development and implementation. 
  • Conduct and maintain appropriate laboratory and/or field experiments, analyze data statistically, and create reports with charts and graphs of results.
  • Assist in the development of research-related publications and reports.
  • Creatively apply own knowledge, skills, and experience in environmental science to solve problems and deliver solutions for a diverse number of stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement learning objectives, curriculum, and training materials related to soil health, and general soil management for a diverse number of stakeholder groups.
  • Utilize all communication techniques such as mass media, Internet, etc. to disseminate relevant outreach education to clientele.
  • Organize outreach events and speak at meetings and conferences to disseminate research knowledge. 

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Prior work experience not required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • * Experience with environmental science projects
  • * Experience with statistical analyses and software
  • * Experience in organizing complex, large datasets
  • * Demonstrated experience in publishing scholarly articles
  • * Demonstrated experience in speaking at scientific conferences
