Position Description:

The Research Technician I in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics will conduct standard and develop novel molecular biology and next generation sequencing tools for grant-funded and new Smith lab projects. Assist with general day-to-day operations of a research laboratory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for standard molecular biology laboratory work including nucleic acid extractions, PCR, and next generation library preparation.
  • Responsible for cell-based laboratory work including mammalian cell culture and running cell-based activity assays.
  • Responsible for independent project management, will assist Principal Investigator with interfacing with collaborative teams both internal and external to UofL.
  • Will share responsibilities of general laboratory operations, including sample coordination, instrumentation maintenance, data quality control/assurance/analysis, and training students in lab methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, next generation sequencing.
  • Experience in manuscript preparation, project management, data analysis/interpretation.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
