The Program in Immunology in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division is looking for a highly motivated individual to support the development of immunotherapy for cancer. This person will join a team evaluating a new TCR T cell immunotherapy in a phase 1 clinical trial. They may also participate in other laboratory projects involving development and/or evaluation of T cell immunotherapy or graft engineering.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include processing and cryopreservation of human blood and bone marrow samples, flow cytometry evaluation of incoming samples, screening patient samples for protocol eligibility and responses, maintaining meticulous records, and organizing and reporting on test results. This individual will have the opportunity to learn and work with a variety of cutting-edge cellular and molecular research techniques. Other duties will include general support of various projects in the laboratory including but not limited to:

  • Ordering, lab maintenance and quality control and improvement activities
  • Plan and perform in vitro immunology cellular and molecular assays reliably according to laboratory protocols
  • Learn new techniques as required
  • Assist post-doctoral scientists as required
  • Analyze, organize, and present data
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data
  • Assist in the design and implementation of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research
  • Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas
  • May perform statistical analyses, manage research data bases

Please note that part of the job responsibilities includes collecting and/or processing samples from patients enrolled on clinical trials, which will require working outside of typical work hours, including evenings and infrequently on weekends.


Qualifications
  • Research Technician I minimum qualifications: BA/BS in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related fields is required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills. Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.
  • Research Technician II minimum qualifications: Intermediate level position requiring 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory and BA/BS in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related fields. Independent research experience outside of laboratory coursework is usually necessary. At least a two-year commitment is preferred.
  • Preferred qualifications: Bench research experience including PCR, DNA sequencing, and flow cytometry outside of course work. Experience in cell separation and selection, tissue culture, chromium release assays, ELISPOT and ELISA is desirable. Experience in molecular techniques western blotting, molecular cloning, viral vector construction is also desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to perform tasks independently and in teams.

The hourly pay range for the I position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

The hourly pay range for the II position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
