JOB SUMMARY

Looking for a hard-working person who has completed a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, or related fields and wishes to gain at least 2 years of research experience. You will be working in the laboratory of Dr. Eva Naumann in the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University, NC. Our lab focuses on dissecting neural circuits of visual processing in larval zebrafish with a variety of behavior assays, in vivo calcium imaging, advanced optogenetic approaches, and computational methods.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to perform, or be willing to learn, the following tasks:

  • Zebrafish breeding and daily husbandry
  • Molecular cloning
  • DNA and RNA extraction
  • Genotyping
  • Microinjection
  • Lab managerial tasks (i.e. purchasing, lab safety checks, preparing general use materials, keeping general areas clean)
  • Provide support to lab members in the execution of new research procedures, techniques, and experiments.

You will also have your own individual projects to gain more hands-on research experience, specifically investigating the behavior and neural processing of a transgenic fish line with impaired retinal development. You will be expected to ethically collect and manage data, keep an accurate and complete lab notebook, and contribute to journal publications. 

The ideal candidate is passionate for research in basic science, organized, self-motivated, and has great time management skills. It is imperative that the candidate is willing to collaborate with other lab members. We welcome recent graduates who are eager to contribute to cutting-edge research and expand their skills in neuroscience.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related disciplines.

Experience

  • Zebrafish husbandry experience.
  • Research experience in a laboratory.
