Position Highlights The laboratory of Dr. Won Hee Lee at The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician I. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded, enthusiastic individual with training in the broad area of biomedical sciences. Using a combination of patient-specific human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), human cells, along with animal models, the Lee lab is interested in studying the molecular mechanisms, consequences, and treatment of various cardiovascular diseases associated with diabetes and environmental exposure, such as e-cigarette, smoking and radiation. The candidate should have experience performing research in a laboratory setting, and be familiar with techniques such as Western blot and immunohistochemistry. This individual should be detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision and guidance of the principal investigator, set up lab equipment following detailed procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures such as handling of autoimmune arthritis model, immuno and histological staining, ELISA, Flow analysis, light and fluorescent microscopy, RT-PCR.
  • Analyze data, record information, and maintain logs of experimental data.
  • Assist in maintaining the mouse colonies: mouse handling, breeding, weaning, genotyping. 
  • Assist in performing animal experiments on research animals. 
  • Coordinates the acquisition of lab supplies and general lab upkeep.
  • Assist with managing lab safety protocol, waste material, and arranging for disposal according to established procedures. 
  • Clean/sterilize instruments, glassware, and equipment.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in laboratory and research work.
  • Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Skill in recording research data.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications* Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
* Broad familiarity and hands-on experience with general lab techniques.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact and work professionally with others as a team.
* Prior stem cell and cell culture experience are plus.
