The Stephenson Cancer Center is now hiring for a Research Technician at the Health Promotion Research Center. This position will work at the Tobacco Treatment Research Program on a variety of research projects that focus on tobacco cessation for the adult patient population. The Research Technician’s efforts will primarily be focused on interacting with study participants in person and via phone, tracking all study documentation and communication.

Duties:

  • Collect, enter, and maintain research data (e.g., in person questionnaires, smartphone-based questionnaires) pertaining to smartphone research projects. 
  • Starting appointments, consent patients from outpatient clinics to participate in clinical and socio-behavioral research studies. Directly contact adult patients in clinic and/or over the phone.
  • Conduct check-ins with active participants of studies.
  • Assist in simple clinical research projects collecting data from patients and/or participants in a study or project.
  • Collect various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information patient consent forms, and/or hard files. 
  • Can include Interpreting and analyzing data and discussing with principal investigator. Can prepare reports concerning the progress of the project.
  • Answering the phone, make reminder phone calls, contacting participants, rescheduling appointments.
  • Assist with weekly reports on studies such as enrollment numbers, drop-outs, etc.
  • Counseling when needed.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, or other health related field.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of BS Degree.

Department Preferences: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Public Health or other health related field.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of dry laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Proficient with computers including data software and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Familiar with RedCap, SPSS and computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Standing/sitting for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Reaching, bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Environmental: Office setting; patient facing
