Job Description Summary:
A Research Technician position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual. The applicant must have a Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in biology/biochemistry or related fields. Applicant is preferred to have experience in small animal handling, mouse gavage, mouse intravenous and intraperitoneal injections, and molecular biology and cell biology, including cell culture, molecular cloning, and enzyme biochemical assays, and should be available for in-person interviews.
Research in the recruiting laboratory focuses on examining the therapeutic roles and pharmacokinetic behaviors of small molecules with anti-cancer activities and to understand their actions on tumor cell growth and metastasis, by using animal models, cellular/molecular biological tools, and analytical biochemistry.
The Research Technician will work on a variety of research projects and utilize skills including but not limited to cell culture, various cellular assays, animal handling, mouse gavage, mouse intravenous and intraperitoneal injections. The position will also fulfill the requirement in HPLC/electro chemical or UV detection with small molecules. The position will be responsible for purchase ordering of supplies, daily maintenance of experimental records and animal records.
The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in biology/biochemistry, or related field

Work Experience:

• Experience working in a molecular biology research laboratory.
• Experience in cell culture
• Experience in mouse handling and laboratory housekeeping

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master of Science degree in biology/biochemistry or related field.

Work Experience:
• Experience in mouse tumor xenografts development, and in studying the efficacy of experimental drugs in mouse xenograft models is preferred. 
• Experience in mouse gavage, mouse tail vein injection and intraperitoneal injection is preferred.
• Experience in HPLC or analytical biochemistry is preferred.
• Training and experience in histology is preferred.

Skills:
• Strong communications skills, including experience writing and orating with a scientific audience.
• Ability to work on a team and independently.
• Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills

Job Duties:

Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:

  • Utilize HPLC to detect small molecules using blood, urine, or other biological samples.

  • Execute cell culture and cell-based assays, such as assays in cell viability, apoptosis, proliferation, migration, etc.

  • Perform various research techniques on mice and performing animal maintenance.

  • Complete biochemical assays, including but not limited to DNA, RNA, and protein assays.

  • Conduct histology analysis.

  • Maintain the lab supplies and perform general lab maintenance.

  • Participate in regular communication with the PI via lab meetings and personal meetings.

  • Generate, document, and analyze data for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.

  • Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.

  • Other job duties as assigned per the needs of research projects.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
