Job Description Summary:
Academic and industrial training in the synthesis and upscaling of small molecule drugs and polymeric nanosystems for enhanced drug delivery. Synthesize peptides and graphene-derivatives for sensors and actuators used in medical devices and processes. Perform extensive quality controls of these materials. Support ongoing company-funded scientific collaborations with Hawkeye Bio LLC, Torrance, CA, and Hydrograph International, Vancouver, Canada.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Tissue culture skills are preferred.

  • Ability to work accurately and cooperatively with others.

Job Duties Outlined:
Research Tech – Job Duties

Under guidance of the PI/faculty or other research staff, conduct routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, and record results, this includes performing research with human samples, and collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.

Document in Laboratory Notebook all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.

Interact on a regular basis with faculty and other members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

Maintain the day-to-day laboratory maintenance operations that includes:

  • Order supplies and negotiate prices on lab consumables.

  • Maintain adequate inventory of lab kits and reagents.

  • Cleanup laboratory and equipment.

  • Calibrate, maintain, operate equipment keeping appropriate documentation and report malfunctions to supervisor.

  • Maintain lab guidelines for specific studies as directed by lab supervisor.

Serve as lab safety person as needed, dispose of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps, and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy, and strictly adheres to safety and biosafety control procedures.

Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Cancer Biology Department, understand and follow IACUC, animal, and biosafety protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned by PI/faculty and other research staff.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
