Job Summary
The Aravin Lab at Caltech is seeking a motivated individual to join as a Research Technician. The successful candidate will assist on an ongoing project to characterize a gene that is important for animal fertility.
Essential Job Duties

• Perform common molecular biology experiments, such as PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis.
• Perform basic Drosophila crosses, sort desirable animals for downstream experiments.
• Perform RNA in situ hybridization and image samples using confocal microscopy.
• Maintain Drosophila stocks.
• Keep detailed records of experiments.
• Perform other tasks and experiments as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology-related fields.
• One-year experience in biology research laboratory.
• Experience working with the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two-year experience in biology research laboratory.
• Experience with an independent biology research project.
• Experience with RNA in situ hybridization.
• Experience with confocal microscopy.
• Solid understanding of basic molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis.
• Solid understanding of basic Drosophila genetics.
