The Brandeis ATLAS group is a member of the ITk Strips collaboration that is designing a novel silicon detector for the ATLAS Detector upgrade. Half of the barrel detector components for the ITk Strips detector will be built by the US in the next 4 years. This includes about 200 staves, 5,600 modules and about 8,000 hybrids. 
About one third of the modules and hybrids will be built at Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) and one third will be built at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL).  All the staves will be assembled at BNL. 
Brandeis is currently making major contributions to the stave assembly and we are solely responsible for the software controlling the robot used in the assembly and surveying of the staves. Brandeis is also contributing to the assembly and testing of Modules.
This hire will provide one person stationed at BNL or LBNL to fulfill our responsibilities in Stave Assembly or Module Assembly and Testing. For Stave Assembly, this person will operate the XYZ stage controlling the camera, glue dispenser and laser used in the assembly of the staves. This person will also develop new software as needed to improve the functionality of the system. For Modules, this person will participate in all phases of construction and testing. 

For Stave Assembly: 
Function 1: operate the robot used for stave assemnly at BNL, Estimated 50%
Function 2: improve software controlling robot and other equipment used in Stave Assembly, Estimated 30% 
Function 3: data analysis of stave assembly survey data and ITK database uploading, Estimated 20% 

For Module Assembly and Testing: 
Function 1: Assembly of Hybrids, estimated 20%
Function 2: Testing of hybrids, estimated 20%
Function 3: Assembly of Modules, estimated 30%

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Physics required

2. Experience in assemblying devices, manual dexterity is preferred
Function 4: Testing of Modules, estimated 30%
