Physical Requirements
To meet project requirements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects, climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, wear all PPE, sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, repetitive motion tasks, exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes
including waste and risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job.
Shift
Monday – Friday typical working hours, for example 8:30am – 5:00pm. Some
nights and weekends shift work may also be required to meet project demands.

Position Overview: Associate Research Technician

With assignment mainly to DE-FE00031921, the bench NH4OH CO2 capture and algae utilization project, and occasionally to other projects at the lab, bench, pilot and demonstration scales, work with the research team to perform unit operations with specific expertise on the bench NH4OH CO2 capture and algae utilization unit; perform problem solving/troubleshooting efforts; and improve EH&S protocol.
Duties and responsibilities as Unit Technician will include but may not be limited to:

  • Develop expertise on the UK bench NH4OH CO2 capture and algae utilization unit including process integration and individual unit operations
  • Participate in troubleshooting and repair of the UK bench NH4OH CO2 capture to keep it in good functional condition.
  • Operate the UK bench NH4OH CO2 capture and algae utilization unit, following established conditions and SOPs including taking measurements, recording observations, and collecting samples
  • Perform calibrations and maintain records
  • Assist in maintenance and preventative maintenance of UK bench NH4OH CO2 capture and algae utilization unit records including logs of operations maintenance, calibration, and checks, and shift reports
  • Follow all EH&S protocol
  • Operate other UK experimental units when assigned
  • Maintain and organize inventory

Job Requirements:
  • Be able to work in Lexington offices with occasional travel to other host sites and put in full days of work there.
  • Occasional shift work, as assigned, to meet project requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all UK, group and other host site policies and procedures.
  • To meet project requirements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 40 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, wear all PPE, sitting for long periods of time, standing, and walking.
  • Adept at computer software use.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Has regular meeting and training attendance.
  • Accepts other responsibilities, as assigned or as needed.
  • Maintains positive interaction with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Maintains a clean, clutter-free, organized, professional work/laboratory spaces and office environments.
  • Frequent unsolicited reporting of progress and results, daily or weekly.
