Research Technician


Job Description

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, this research specialist facilitates the day-to-day operations of an exercise study for older adults with early Alzheimer’s disease. The research specialist will oversee participant intervention delivery and participate in participant accrual activities. This research specialist collaborates with project stakeholders to plan, implement, and monitor operations, deadlines, and workflows that strategically contribute to meeting the outcomes as set with the grant sponsor. Using a team-based approach to problem-solving, the URA actively contributes to effective workflow changes and improved project practices.

Grant Funded Position

This is a grant funded position. Continuation is contingent on future grant funding.


Salary Range

$20.40 - $25.00 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Implement standard operating procedures for participant recruitment, screening, exercise testing, intervention delivery, and data collection.
  • Recruit and screen potential study participants for study qualification.
  • Supervise and monitor participant exercise intervention sessions with up to three older adults at onsite or offsite study locations. 
  • Communicate effectively with potential participants, and internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project workflow is executed according to the protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure the timely implementation, progression, and completion of all study activities according to the study protocol such as meeting enrollment goals, and data collection schedules. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of being as ASU student pursuing a degree in nursing, exercise science, biology, or similar degree with experience managing projects; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience supervising adult aerobic exercise sessions.
  • Experience communicating and working with older adults with cognitive impairment. 
  • Experience multitasking with numerous assignments in a dynamic work environment.
  • Reliable transportation to commute to onsite and offsite study locations.
  • Evidence of exercise-related certifications like ACE, ACSM, AACVPR, NASM, or NSCA.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended sitting, standing, and walking periods. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily desktop computer use, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
