The Research Assistant will be part of the new BU CTE center tissue culture initiative. This individual will perform and assist in research projects aim at understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, like CTE and Alzheimer's disease, using both primary and immortalized neural cells. They will also be involved in human neuropathology studies and assist in the daily operation of the BU CTE brain bank. This individual will obtain firsthand teaching in neurology, neuropathology, and experimental pathology from world-renown experts in the field and be part of cutting-edge research. The position requires handling human biological samples and preparation of samples for analysis.


The research assistant will perform data collection and database maintenance. Verify the accuracy and validity of data input into the database. Perform qualitative and quantitative data collection and data entry. Organize incoming brain donations to the CTE various brain banks. Work with postmortem tissue, assisting senior researchers on brain tissue cutting. Prepare results for publication and participate in bi-weekly and monthly consensus and science meetings. Conduct internet-based and library research. Responsible for related administrative duties, handling the purchase of lab equipment and supplies and maintain common laboratory supply stock, and placing orders as needed. Assist with any other research activities assigned by supervisor which may include scheduling meetings, sending emails, coordinating communication with the Data Core and Brain Bank Cores.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or some experience in neuroscience or a related field (preferable 1-3 years). Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met, maintain a clean and well-organized work area, and perform limited other duties assigned by your direct supervisor. Full-Time Location: VA Boston Healthcare System (Jamaica Plain).
