This position supports the laboratory functioning by fulfilling basic needs and allowing more advanced researcher to focus on critical activities.
The successful candidate will be responsible to provide general support to researchers working in the Hollenberg Lab. Primarily, this professional will be responsible for managing mouse colony (handling, breeding, weaning, etc) and genotyping the different mouse lines used in Dr. Hollenberg's research. Additionally, the successful candidate will also be responsible for general lab tasks and basic management, such as managing micro tubes and tips stocks, requesting hazardous waste pickups, and ordering commonly used material and reagents.
Essential functions are but not limited to:
1. Mouse colony management: Verification of timely pregnancy; Daily checking for new births; Weaning pups at the right age; Ear-tagging young mice; setting up breeding pairs.
2. Genotyping: Running multiple PCR reactions followed by agarose gel electrophoresis to genotype the mice used in the lab.
3. Basic lab management: Checking stocks of most commonly used material, such as gloves, pipette tips, and micro tubes. Ordering these material and other basic reagents as necessary.
4. General experimental support to other researchers.
Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of experience is required. The fields of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, and similar are preferred.
