Conducts visual and auditory point count surveys of wetland birds on recently restored wetlands in northwestern Ohio; measures vegetation cover characteristics and takes water quality measurements in the vicinity or avian point count locations in recently restored wetlands in northwestern Ohio; enters data into computer databases for analysis and interpretation and performs routine statistical summaries and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping applications.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Associate's Degree and 0-1 years of relevant experience. Ability to identify Ohio-native wetland birds visually or acoustically. Ability to identify common wetland plants, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Ability to navigate with hand-held GPS, operate hand-powered watercraft, (canoe, kayak, rowboat) and use specialized equipment used to detect and identify wetlands-dependent wildlife (call broadcast system, binoculars, spotting scope). Must have a valid drivers license. Work is mostly outdoors traveling by foot (several miles each day) on dry or wet/flooded ground or with small watercraft when necessary.
Minimum Desired Qualifications:
Completion of substantial portion of core curriculum required for a BS or BA degree in Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, or Animal Sciences, and/or equivalent work experience. Ability to enter data into computer databases for statistical and Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis.
