FAES | Center for Food Animal Health

Conducts research on the virology and immunology pertaining to Hepatitis E virus including host innate immunity-pathogen interactions, vaccine development and diagnostic tests.  Assists in the coordination and conduct of laboratory assays (virology, immunology and molecular biology); works with specific pathogen free poultry, conventional pigs, small animal models, generates, organizes and processes data, including computer analysis. Generates and maintains samples, reagents and supply inventories.  Tests and evaluates new or revised research protocols and reagents, validates and troubleshoots experiments. Generates and maintains (preparing/submitting renewals and amendments) lab IACUC/IBC/IRB protocols and lab SOPs. Provides general lab training to new lab personnel. Located in Wooster, OH.


Additional Information:

70% Conduct lab or animal (conventional or germfree) experiments (sampling, inoculation, preparation of samples, sequencing analysis, cell culture, virus titration, electron microscopy, immunologic assays); assist in research, development, and adaptation of new procedures and assays and experimental protocols as needed. Assist with IBC/IACUC/IRB protocol revisions/renewals and submissions. Maintain chemical inventory, lab SOPs and complete annual lab safety inspections. 

25% Performs routine laboratory inventories, laboratory safety compliance, reagents/supplies ordering. Assists in training new lab personnel; orders and restocks supplies; maintains lab inventories, updates financial and lab records, protocols and databases. 

5% Conducts shared departmental tasks as assigned, including cleaning up autoclave room and filling liquid nitrogen tanks. 

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
