GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
We are seeking a bright and motivated individual for a Research Technician I position in the Perugino Laboratory of the Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases (CIID) at Massachusetts General Hospital. The CIID is a multidisciplinary research center with the goal of discovering new molecular pathways in inflammatory diseases.
Dr. Perugino's laboratory is focused on understanding mechanisms of autoimmunity and immune-mediated fibrosis with the goal of developing avenues for future therapeutic development. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is one such disease marked by chronic tissue inflammation resulting in fibrosis of the blood vessels, skin, lungs, heart, and intestines. Current treatment options are limited and it remains the most lethal rheumatologic disease. Current aims of the laboratory include:
  • Defining pathogenic B cells at sites of disease.
  • Identifying novel antigens driving the B cell response.
  • Determining if pathologically expanded cytotoxic T cells are self-reactive.
  • Phenotyping defects in regulatory T cells in SSc.

  • In order to pursue these aims, we leverage primary blood and skin samples from patients with SSc evaluated at MGH, as well as a wide variety of research techniques including flow cytometry, BCR/TCR sequencing, single cell sequencing, protein microarrays, and in vitro functional assays. We are looking for a research technician to play an interactive and integral role in these studies.
    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties will include, but are not exclusive to:
    • participation in general laboratory responsibilities, including ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and ensuring maintenance of equipment
    • molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, and quantitative PCR
    • isolation and purification of primary cells from human tissues
    • flow cytometry
    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Candidates for this position should have a solid background in biology and a strong interest in immunology and molecular biology. This position would be ideal for those candidates interested in gaining significant experience in biomedical research and considering future graduate studies. Candidates interested in a two year or longer commitment are strongly preferred.
    Qualifications
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree, with coursework in related fields (such as Immunology and Molecular Biology or Biochemistry) strongly preferred
    • previous laboratory experience is highly preferred, but all techniques will be taught upon joining the lab
    • proficiency with computer software, including Power Point and Excel
