About the Department
 

The Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology provides care for patients and families with acute and chronic medical conditions, or other hematologic diseases, requiring the specialty knowledge and skills of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation.  


Job Summary
 

The job provides basic technical support activities related to scientific research projects. Complies with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. Aids in drafting presentations on research findings.
This at-will position is wholly funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderately complex lab and research-related duties and tasks. Specific laboratory skills include maintenance of human cancer cell lines, molecular biology techniques including PCR and generation of next-generation sequencing libraries, protein methods, cell death assays, in vitro drug testing, light-field/fluorescent microscopy, and basic molecular biology procedures. 

  • Analyze data, conduct literature reviews, assist with the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents, and maintain and order equipment and supplies. May work with, orient, or coordinate with the work of other research support staff and students. 

  • Perform small animal procedures including subcutaneous injections, oral and IP drug administration, necropsies, and preparation of samples for histologic examination. 

  • Responsibilities may include assisting with developing data collection tools, assisting with building databases, and providing general administrative support. 

  • Complies with institution, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. 

  • This job provides technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment performing basic laboratory techniques, research, and analysis under direction. 

  • Performs other related work as needed. 


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications  


 


Education: 


  • Bachelor's degree relevant to the research being conducted. 
     


Experience: 


  • Construction of next-generation sequencing libraries. 

  • Competency in cell culture.  

  • Experience with molecular biology.
