About the Department
 

The Department of Microbiology faculty researches a vast array of bacteria and viruses. We are a community of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students, and staff committed to research and education in the field of microbiology. Our faculty conduct interdisciplinary research that advances the study of microbes and microbial diseases. Basic research in Microbiology underwrites out effort for eradication of important pathogens, prevention of human diseases, development of gene therapies and the evolution of new strategies for personalized medicine. We are also committed to training the next generation of scientists.


Job Summary
 

The Research Technical Analyst will work in the lab to prepare samples for cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) which includes, bacterial cell culture, different biochemistry assays (like e.g., SDS-PAGE), protein purification and ultimately preparing samples for cryo-ET and cryo-EM (plunge freezing).

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance with cell culture and various biochemical and microbiological assays.

  • Assist with lab management duties (ordering, lab safety, etc.).

  • Prepare samples for cryo-ET experiments (training in cryo-ET will be provided if needed).

  • This job provides technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment performing basic laboratory techniques, research and analysis under direction.

  • Provides routine or standardized laboratory duties by collecting data in support of research projects under direct supervision.

  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field.

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working in a lab.
